New timing belts for the Pfaff 130 are now available. It is thought that when your belt breaks, your 130 is not repairable. This is no longer true. Give your Pfaff another 60 years of service.
You must send me your old belt complete with 73 cleats. Otherwise, a belt is not possible. Do not attempt to clean your old belt. Do not attempt to remove the cleats from the old cording. Contact me for a mailing address.
I nstallation procedure you can expect. The belt can be installed without the disassembly of the main shaft. You'll need common tools, screwdriver, needle nose pliers, etc. A local repair shop can do this job for you.1 The bottom sprocket must be removed. 2 The new belt is threaded into the machine. Interlace the belt end loops like fingers in politely folded hands. The linchpin (supplied to you) is slid into the belt loops. 3 The bottom sprocket is placed into the belt.
Be sure the belt cleats are in their saddles. 4 Lifting up on the sprocket, thereby stretching the belt just a bit, slip the sprocket back onto its shaft. 5 Make sure the linch pin end loop is laying flat on the sprocket surface. Spread the linch pin's ends, thus locking it into place. Trim the ends to proper length.Reference the image of the sprocket/belt model to see the how the belt fastens and seats against the sprocket. 6 Turn the main shaft by hand and check that the linch pin does not rub against the machine housing. The belts are custom made by hand with fresh braided nylon cording.
Determining rope/twine/cording strength can get to be a tricky business. Since the cording is rated by the industry at 7lb.
Working load, and since the belt uses 10 strands of cording, the belt's working load is about 70lbs. What this means is that the belt will tolerate a shock from a 70lb. Load, as if the load was connected to the belt, released in a freefall, and was stopped by the belt.
Curious about how tough the belt is, I connected it to a steel beam. I slipped a piece of broom stick into the belt's loop and did five pullups. I'd have done more to see if the belt would ever break, but I'm out of shape. The belt cording and the linch pin connector showed no signs of stress. This is far more strength than the Pfaff will ever need to accommodate heavy sewing jobs and to simply spin the loop making hook.Your new belt will have one less cleat(72). This is necessary to make room for the linchpin fastener. The new belt, when installed on the sprockets, will be under a bit of tension. This keeps the cleats firmly in their saddles, secures the linch pin, and minimizes any drive train play.
